“Christian coaching is the practice
of guiding and enabling individuals or groups to move from where they are to
where God wants them to be.” – Dr. Gary Collins
Over the past
few years I have had the privilege of coaching many who are new to Life
Coaching. These are godly men and women
who believe that God has placed it in their hearts to help others. From what I have seen and heard, these people
will make a great impact on our world for the good. I am so excited to see what God is doing for
His church and for the world as a whole, through these dear people.
In praying for this move in the
coaching community and facing my own desire and purpose to help others, I have
come to this blog. The purpose of this collection
of blogs I have put under the title of Success
In Coaching, is to offer help, advice and hopefully to stimulate thinking
about Christian Life Coaching. I do not
know it all, however I have learned some things in the close to four decades I
have been coaching, pastoring and teaching on success. I am also hoping to learn much from you. We all have insights and lessons that we have
learned to offer.
One area that I will be
stressing is that of building a successful coaching practice and how to help
those who come to you find their purpose and success. Understand that the laws of success and like
the laws of nature or the Laws of God.
They have always been there, they do not change and they always work
when correctly applied. These laws of
success are not secular nor are they spiritual.
Like nature, it is how God has set things in motion to operate. He is the one who holds the keys to true
success and fulfillment. Do
non-Christian people succeed? Yes they
do. Just as one is under the laws of
nature, whether they believe in it or not (if you jump off the roof you will
hit the ground - every time.), so when the laws of success are followed, one
can be successful and achieve great things.
Here is the rub, I do not believe anyone can find true success in life
outside of a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
Humans are spiritual beings as
much as we are physical. As C.S. Lewis
said, "We are not a body with a soul, we are a soul with a
body." Many people have found
success in many areas of life and yet also found emptiness and destruction. Why?
Because they neglected the spirit in them. They try to be a whole human without having
to deal with the Creator who designed them.
That is impossible. I work with
many in the business community who are working toward success in business,
finances, discovering and achieving their dreams, yet I always have to bring
the principles of the spirit into it. If
I neglected to do so, I would not be giving them full council or advice.
So allow me to end this the way
I plan to end all these blogs, with a question.
What do you see as the greatest need in the lives of the people you work
with? If you are not currently coaching
anyone, how about the people around you?
What is it that you see as their greatest questions? Put your answers in the response box below
and let's start to talk.
